B.J. Clark
The paintings of award-winning artist B.J. (Berna Jean Sutton) Clark are well-loved and widely exhibited and collected. A former librarian, she began her career in watercolor painting at the Louisville School of Arts and finished her BFA degree at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. A native of Knoxville, she is married to Charles Clark and has two sons, Art and Scott. B.J. constantly strives to achieve paintings that honestly depict her feelings and heritage. She paints mainly in watercolor but also enjoys pastel, acrylic, graphite and mixed media. Her travels to foreign countries, and other areas of the United States, to paint on location helps keep her paintings fresh and alive. She has been honored with more than 20 one-woman shows and has received numerous awards locally, regionally and nationally. During the past five years, these awards have included four Best of Show, five First Place, and seven Honorable Mention. Major exhibitions include The Parthenon, Nashville, TN; Hunter Museum, Chattanooga, TN; Knoxville Museum of Art; the J.P. Speed Museum of Art, Louisville, KY; the University of Tennessee Ewing Gallery; and, Boston Museum of Art. Her work is included in more than 75 corporate collections throughout the southeast and in numerous private collections – including those of famed news anchor Walter Cronkite, U.S. Congressman Jimmy Duncan, the Australian ambassador, and the U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe. B.J. serves as an officer, or on the boards, of numerous art and charitable groups. She frequently contributes her work to fund-raising efforts of charitable organizations and community art endeavors, including Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Her work can be found at Village Fine Art Gallery and also at the Art Market in Knoxville. |
