Joppa Mountain Pottery
Joppa Mountain Pottery is owned by a family of potters and artists living in
the small, rural community of Joppa located in Rutledge, Tennessee, in the
beautiful Grainger County foothills.
All of their work is "one of a kind."
Master Potter McDonald Crosby and his wife Ann started Joppa Mountain Pottery in 1995. McDonald, an accomplished student of fine art, has been creating pottery for more than 30 years, Ann for 20. Her son, Shane, is becoming an accomplished potter as well.
Joppa Mountain Pottery has a growing reputation with collectors and galleries all over the world and has been featured in major news media such as Home and Garden Television (HGTV), on PBS, and in Country Marketplace Magazine.
Handmade stoneware and Raku pottery is their specialty, wheel-thrown or hand-sculpted and then decorated, carved, painted, glazed and kiln fired. There are no molds used. Their pottery is either their original design or
made to order for customers.
All glazes are recipes they have created and refined and from different 'dirt' from all over the world. To name just a few of the ingredients, they use Chung reds, cobalt blues, earth-toned browns for stoneware glazes and nickel, copper and iron metals in Raku glazes. No two pieces are the same, giving our customers unique, original and superior quality.
