Artist, Tom Ellison    Tom Ellison

Tom was born in Arkansas, and his family moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, when he was in elementary school. He graduated from the University of Tennessee where he excelled in drawing and artistic skills. He didn't major in art, however, because he wasn't interested in abstract expressionism, which was in vogue at that time.

After 30 years devoted to a business career, Tom returned to painting for his own enjoyment. He was especially attracted to artists such as Manet, Renoir, Degas, VanGogh and Sargent. He began copying paintings by these and other artists to learn their techniques and to enjoy having the works around him. He has produced between 50 and 100 copies of various artists over a period of 10 years.

Tom did not sell the copies until friends and Village Fine Art Gallery convinced him that other people would enjoy them as much as he did. Of course, he signs his own name and pays tribute to the original artists who have brought us so many wonderful images.

At this stage of his development as a serious artist, Tom creates portraits, original creations of his own, copies of the impressionists by request, and occasional landscapes.
